Home internet

With technology playing a major role in our lives, it is important that our homes are able to keep up with growing demands on data usage.

With the roll out of the NBN, a lot of older homes struggle to reach the promised speeds to due outdated and poorly installed copper phone lines. Modems are typically placed wherever a point is, and this can lead to low WiFi strength in certain parts of the home.

Newer houses may contain a data hub, usually located in the garage that can be used to send internet and phone to various parts of the home. In many cases, builders neglect to think about the best place for the WiFi modem and the owner generally puts it in the garage, resulting in dropouts, especially with larger modern homes.

The solution. Hard wire everything. This means having high quality category 6 cabling from your modem to all fixed connected equipment such as TV’s, computers, doorbells, speakers and to smart home appliances such as fridges and washing machines. This will reduce the traffic on your WiFi as you are not relying on it to download or stream content.

Another cost effective option is to have a WiFi extender of access point installed. These are great for larger or multi level homes and ensure WiFi is available wherever you need it.
